CupOfTea #1 — Childhood Favorite Singer
Written on March 11th, 2019
What comes to mind if someone asks me about my favorite singer is actually I would answer that there are a lot of singers in this world who have been my favorite. Since I was a kid, I’ve been used to listening to Western songs as my mother is a big fan of Celine Dion. She liked to play Celine’s songs a lot at our home when I was in elementary school.
Because of listening the same songs every possible way, I began to love Celine Dion as well. Not only because of her amazing voice but also because I found it interesting to learn English through songs and music. But it’s not Celine Dion whom I adore the most as my favorite singer, I have another one.
Have you ever watched Disney channel? I encountered my favorite singer there. Well that channel was also the big reason why I’m so interested in English. I thought it was really cool if I could speak and understand well the language they used.
After having so much time in front of Disney channel, I found joy by watching their programs which mostly are cartoons and sitcoms using non-subtitles English. Little did I understand what they were talking about because at that time I also joined an English course.
I had a lot of favorite cartoons there, but my favorite TV serial and also sitcom was Hannah Montana. That was the first time I met my favorite singer. That was the first time I knew Miley Cyrus who was the main role and starred as Hannah Montana.
Miley was still a pure young girl back then. She was innocent and funny at the same time. She is totally adorable. Truth to be told, she has a beautiful unique voice which I love so much. I started to adore her badly after I watched her movie, Hannah Montana the Movie.
That movie really hit me so hard. I really liked it. I loved the story, the plot, and also the settings. It mainly took place in Nashville-Tennessee, her beautiful countryside home town. What I loved about it was I felt like we had the common situation at the time I watched it, haha.
Because I also moved from a crowded city of Palu to a small village called my home town in Cilacap when I was in JHS (Junior High School). I downloaded almost all of her songs and started to memorize the lyrics. Yes, I did. I did memorize all the lyrics so that I could sing them without hindrances. I’ve grown up by listening to Miley’s good old songs.
I think it’s amazing how songs can take you back to a particular time in your life, especially when you had your biggest life-changing moments. Miley’s songs have always been my favorite since I moved to Cilacap (Central Java). Every time I listen to them, I feel like I’d go back to that big moment when I was in JHS and living in countryside which was so happy and peaceful. When I miss my home town, I always use Miley’s songs to heal that homesickness and it works all the time. Thanks to Miley and that life-changing moments in my life.
