Writings #5 — EME's Homework

Haloo!

Memories #1 — The Most Memorable Thing in My Life

Image
Written on March 23th, 2019  Disclaimer : ini versi puanjang & detail hehe One fine day in October 2017 when I was in my 5th semester of college, I remember, one of my friends asked something randomly on our badge LINE group. He asked us whether somebody wanted to go to Japan. If there’s any, he told us to inform our chief of major about it. I was so curious and interested back then. I immediately asked my chief of major via WhatsApp and informed her that I was interested in that. She told me that there was a research internship program at Tokyo Univ. of Agriculture & Technology (TUAT), Japan. At that time, I was so excited because this opportunity was terribly rare and I didn’t want to miss it, so I asked about the fees and accommodations. She answered that there would be a scholarship for those who were accepted. The announcement wasn’t published yet, but I already got all the information from her. Afterwards, I made a promise to myself that I had to be accepted ...

Thoughts #4 — Is it true that "Men are More Selfish than Women"?

Written on March 16th, 2019 I can tell that personally I disagree with this statement. I’ll tell you the reasons later, okay. But first of all, let me explain the definition. According to Longman Dictionary, selfish is a behavior which means caring only about yourself and not about other people. This usually used to show disapproval. What comes to mind if you hear this word? As humans, I think, we might have this kind of behavior whether we realize it or not. But does it have a correlation with gender? Is there any possibility to know which one is more selfish than another? Well, let’s find out. As we know, men have always been labeled as selfish human beings, because they are less capable of showing their empathy to others than women. They prefer to act more individually and self-centered. No wonder, in many relationships, many women keep complaining about their men for being selfish when they both fight or get into trouble. According to women, men don't think about their...

Writings #4 — An Intimate Friend

Written on March 15th, 2019 According to Cambridge Dictionary, intimate (adj) means being a close, personal friend or having a close, personal relationship. While according to Longman Dictionary, intimate (adj) means having an extremely close relationship. Even in some definitions, it is said that intimate has something to do with sexual relationships. But in this paper, I would make it more general as an extremely close friend. Regarding to two definitions above, I would like to describe my own definition about an intimate friend as a very close friend to whom we share every personal thing about ourselves. Based on QnA in Quora, I found that there’s a small difference between an intimate friend and a close friend. In our real life, I believe that everybody has both of these kinds of friend. We are truly close to both of them. We even share the same hobbies and interests. We spend most of the time together; we might also have known each other since a very long time. But somehow...

CupOfTea #1 — Childhood Favorite Singer

Written on March 11th, 2019 What comes to mind if someone asks me about my favorite singer is actually I would answer that there are a lot of singers in this world who have been my favorite. Since I was a kid, I’ve been used to listening to Western songs as my mother is a big fan of Celine Dion. She liked to play Celine’s songs a lot at our home when I was in elementary school. Because of listening the same songs every possible way, I began to love Celine Dion as well. Not only because of her amazing voice but also because I found it interesting to learn English through songs and music. But it’s not Celine Dion whom I adore the most as my favorite singer, I have another one. Have you ever watched Disney channel? I encountered my favorite singer there. Well that channel was also the big reason why I’m so interested in English. I thought it was really cool if I could speak and understand well the language they used. After having so much time in front of Disney channel, I found j...

Thoughts #3 — "Being Loved is Better than Loving Someone", is it true?

Written on February 22nd, 2019 As an adult, we often hear this, “being loved is better than loving someone”. But do we actually agree with this statement? Is being loved better than loving someone, or vice versa? Which one do you usually experience, being loved by someone or loving someone? Do you feel confused already? Relax, you’re not alone. I guess some people will also feel confused about this, especially when you’re asked to write about it. To be honest, I also have no idea to write something about this. I guess I’m not wise enough or probably I’m not ready to think about all that stuff. But let’s give it a try. Apparently for some people, being loved by someone is better than loving someone. Because there’s a big difference between loving and being loved. Loving someone makes a person want to do anything, even if it’s hard and impossible to do in order to make the person love us back. While for those who are being loved, they will feel blessed and so happy like they’re on...

Thoughts #2 — An LDR isn't Hard to Do

Written on February 15th, 2019 In this world, people have so many kinds of relationship such as family, friendship, work or study environment, and also love life relationship. When it comes to love life relationship, it’ll be divided as well into some types. One of the most interesting types to discuss is a long-distance relationship (LDR). An LDR is a relationship where the couple are separated by time and space. They don’t even live in a same town or even country. But they still love and have faith in each other so they try to work it out. Many people said that an LDR is a hard thing to do. If I’m told to write about “Why an LDR is hard to do”, then I would say, “No, it isn’t that hard. Believe me.” Yes, I’m a strong believer that an LDR isn’t that hard to do. It’s just a matter of perspective. It’s about how we see it in a good way and how we behave wisely and maturely. Some people prefer to have a normal relationship instead of an LDR. Why is that? Because in their mind an...

Writings #3 — People Living in Countryside are Happier

Written on February 11th, 2019 I’m a girl who grew up mostly in the middle of a city. I’ve spent a lot of time dealing with the crowd in urban area. It felt good because everything was provided. Facilities of education, health, and transportation can be found easily, and so can the markets. They even have shopping malls, cinemas, cafes, and other hangout spaces in the city. It doesn’t take a long time to find skyscrapers, highways, and traffic jam. If you live in a modern city, you’ll be used to it. However, at some points of life you’ll get bored somehow with your daily encounters. When you’re having your busy days and about to feel exhausted, don’t you ever think to escape? Don’t you want to have a getaway? Well, I often feel that when I'm not in my hometown. My hometown can be considered countryside which is far from the city. It’s a beautiful small village up the hills. A thought about countryside never makes me bored. I’m the kind of person who loves to be in the cou...

Writings #2 — Technologies: the Good and the Bad Sides

Written on February 9th, 2019  Nowadays, there’s nothing that we can do in a day without technology. Either we realize it or not, we live in a world where technology is being our friendly friend. After we wake up in the morning until we go to bed again, nothing can be done without technology. Technology is a system or something that is made to make people’s life easier in every possible aspect. Many aspects in this world are well-run because of technology. Basically, technology can be found in many aspects of our life, such as transportation, education, financial transactions, medical examinations, entertainment industries, food production, agriculture, poultry, engineering, machinery, and many more. But most of us usually relate technology with the Internet and communication. In terms of communication and the Internet, technology is like the two-sided coin. It has the good sides and also the bad sides at the same time. Technology has made our communication much better tha...

Writings #1 — Getting Up Early is Essential

Written on February 8th, 2019  Hi, readers! Now I’m back with an interesting topic. Well, some of us, especially students may think that this topic isn’t really fun at all because it has something to do with a habit which they don’t really like or you can say, something they always do every day but actually they don’t really like it. Yup, as you can see on the title, “getting up early”. Maybe it can be a trouble for some people who aren’t really used to it. But, it can be a favorite part of the day either, for those who are used to it. As far as I know, we, especially the college students, can be divided into two groups. Those who are classified into ‘an early bird’ and the rest are classified into ‘a night owl’. An early bird means someone who always gets up earlier than others but also goes to bed earlier. While a night owl means someone who tends to stay up late, often gets up late, but not a few of them who can also get up early (including me). In my opinion, the habit ...

UntoldStories #1 — My Life in One and a Half Page

Written on February 4th, 2019 My name is Hilda. I’m 21 years old and I'm the eldest daughter. I have two younger sisters who aren’t so small anymore. They’re even taller than me which is kind of annoying to acknowledge, haha. But that’s okay, I still love them and they still respect me anyway as the eldest. I was born in Yogyakarta, but honestly I’m originally from Cilacap, Central Java and also (I can say) Palu, Central Sulawesi. Why did I say that? Because my mom comes from Cilacap and dad is from Palu. They first met each other in Yogyakarta when they were still in college. The three of us lived there for 3 years after they graduated and then we moved to Palu. In Palu, I spent all of my childhood. All was good and fun. There were so many bittersweet memories there. Even when I saw the pictures, the memories came flooding back. I spent 10 years living in Palu, after that, we moved to Cilacap to get a better education for me and my sisters. In Cilacap, we lived in a beautif...
